Closet Cleanup and Mini Capsule Wardrobe Part 1

Welcome to my first vlog!!

So I am getting pretty serious about this whole capsule wardrobe thing. I first heard about it from Jessica over at One Simple Thing - I love her style. Upon more research, I found the wonderful blog Unfancy and also found Jennifer L Scott. She is an amazing inspiration and I need her books. Anyway, my goal is to get a small capsule wardrobe with 10-12 pieces to make things a lot easier on myself when getting ready. Also, this project is really making me think about the stuff I have kept over the years. What have I been thinking?!! Why do I have a million shirts that are not flattering (and I know it) but only 2 of the types of shirts that are flattering and bring joy to my wardrobe?  Why are there so many cardigans? So few dresses (my fave?)
Lots to think about, lots to purge.

  1. Oh my gosh, I'm so excited to see this. I LOVE Unfancy. I'm currently writing a series for the #31days project all about my capsule wardrobe (it happens in October) and I was toying with the idea of videos. I love yours.

Anyway, I'm so blown away by how a capsule has simplified my life. I feel like I always have something to wear, I have less laundry to do because I'm more mindful about whether I can wear something repeatedly instead of tossing stuff into the hamper, and it's helped me really pinpoint my style. I don't love bright colors on me and I'm always more comfortable wearing neutrals like black, gray, and white. Yet I always felt this urge to fill up my closet with bright, "fun" pieces. I think I had 4 bright pink cardigans. And just as you might guess, I rarely wore them and when I did, I felt off kilter somehow. Unfancy showed me it's okay to create a style out of neutrals.

It's all made getting dressed and fashion a whole lot more fun for me.

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by Jessica.
I want to feel like you describe....and I would looove less laundry!
I have the same problem with prints. I buy them because I think I need some pop and wow but it always ends up like "uhoh". I will definitely be following your 31 days project.

  2. I'm excited to see what you come up with, especially with your thrifting expertise. Last year, I went through "my colors" and got rid of all the clothing that doesn't look good with my skin tone (bye-bye five black t-shirts). It's still so hot that I can't wrap my head around "fall" yet, but I'm looking forward to new ideas!

    1. Thanks Melissa, I am excited to see what happens too. Yes, it is too darn hot still and that is one of the things I am struggling with the wardrobe.....maybe a Pre-fall capsule is in order.

  4. I probably have a capsule wardrobe without even trying (although, I'm pretty sure it's not a flattering one!). I'm so clueless when it comes to clothes and I tend to wear the same things over and over (and they are almost all black). So, I can't wait to see what you do with your capsule wardrobe. Great vlog!

  5. I just love the capsule wardrobe challenge! I think me last year would be horrified by it but since going to India last christmas it really put things in perspective that why do I need so many things and wasn't fashion more fun when you had less but made more from it? But anyway I can completely related on the "is this the best quality" question with everything I have bought I have made myself spend more and make sure its something I adore before commiting to it and it feels so good! Really changed the way I view my wardrobe so far!

I can't wait to see your 10-12 pieces I think its incredible that your going to pair it down so much! You go girl! anyway I shull stop rambling and I look forward ot reading more!
