OMGOSH! Ya'll.
We have read some of the most entertaining books this past week.
I just finished Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Book Store and I loved it. This is definitely not a book that I would NOT have picked out for myself but it was great. Very, very great. It was a slow start but well worth getting over the bump.
Hubby is reading Plato....
The kids are loving Maurice Sendak's In The Night Kitchen. Obsessed I tell you. It is a great rhyming book, and my daughter has been reciting the part in the beginning where Mickey says "QUIET DOWN THERE". I have read it exactly 1.5 million times...and I am kicking myself for not checking it out sooner. This will definitely be added to our home library as soon as I can thrift a copy. However, I will warn you, there is some nudity in this book. See controvery surrounding this book on Wiki.
The kids also love Tacky the Penguin. Tacky is a loveable, odd bird who ends up being a hero! My son chose it as a book on CD at the library, which actually helped me with the voices when I read the story (at breakfast!). They have listened to it in the car A LOT and love looking at the book in the house. We heart Tacky!
It always amazes me how picture books appeal to so many different ages of children.
What are ya'll reading?
We are obsessed with green eggs and ham right now. We are even listening to it on audio. I found a compilation of Maurice Sendak's monster series at the thrift in December. The illustrations are magnificent. It's There's an Alligator under my bed, there's a monster in the attic and there's a monster in my closet. Not scary at all, I promise. I am loving The Rosie project right now. :)
ReplyDeleteSplat the Cat - they are little dinky books, but I swear I love the illustrations of the kittens! So Cute!!
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more with your last statement. I also love the Tacky the Penguin series! It's very popular with my first graders. At home we are reading a lot of Pete the Cat and big brother books. Preparing for the big changes coming soon!
