Fave of the Week: Steam Train, Dream Train

Somehow, just somehow I got coerced into buying my son this beautiful book! Haha, if he asks for a book it is hard to refuse. This book was a special treat and we have not put it down since purchasing it.
Steam Train, Dream Train by Sherri Duskey Rinker (check out the author's website HERE) is a beautifully illustrated, wonderfully worded story. A perfect bedtime story, actually, but bedtime is overrated at this house. The language is singsongy and beautiful, easy to follow much like Rinker's previous title, "Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site". Both are illustrated with pastels on dark background that makes the pictures vivid enough but dreamy at the same time.
My son love this book, and my daughter enjoys pointing out the different animals too!

The story follows animals loading up various train cars, but our favorite is the ice cream sundae being wheeled into the reefer car. Oh and the dinosaurs! The book has sparked many discussions in our home, including about what dinosaurs eat, what joeys are, and more. The proper terms of the different train cars are wonderful!

Next time you are at the library/bookstore, check it out!

  1. I will! AND I'm super excited about your thrifting series. I hope you keep up with it. I think I've mentioned this before, but thifting totally overwhelms me - so your posts are really encouraging!
