Books Of The Week Volume 1

Welcome to my new weekly "Book Favorites" blog post! By posting this each week, I am hoping it will keep you inspired and me on track.

Me:I just started Raising Happiness: 10 Simple Steps for More Joyful Kids and Happier Parents by Christine Carter, Ph.D. This is easy to read and sounds pretty well researched (I have not gotten very far). At first, when I read the part about "taking time for yourself", I grimaced. So often I feel like if I do take time for myself, I am being a selfish mother. (I know I am not). But what Carter writes about it is important and true. I just have to keep in mind that taking time for oneself is not a free pass to shirk responsibilities. I also realize that taking time for oneself varies from person to person in amount and type.

Mr. Z (4 years old): My little comedian is loving If All the Animals Came Inside by Eric Pinder, Illustrated by Marc Brown (looove Marc Brown!). "The art was cut from papers printed with gouache and includes photographic elements." The illustrations are amazing and captivating. My son's favorite part of the hilarious story is probably the reactions on the parent's faces when the animals romp about IN THE HOUSE!

Miss Penny (2 years old): Right now, my 2 year old is loving the new Fast and Slow board book from Barefoot Books (note, I am a Barefoot Books Ambassador. Purchases result in a commission for me). We also gifted this book to our almost 3 year old nephew and he wouldn't put it down on gift day. The illustrations are bright, fresh, and there is plenty of vocabulary building opportunity here! I love how it is open-ended enough to have lots of interaction during reading and the illustrations are interesting enough for Miss Penny to thumb through by herself for a while. I am going to buy this in Spanish as well, Rapido y Lento

What are you reading this week? Is it good? Or a snoozer? Let me know in the comments, on Twitter @7LovelyT or on Google + !

  2. "Raising Happiness" -- I read a few chapters of that a while back, and it really inspired me. Now I feel inspired to pick it up again. Her approach makes a lot of sense.
